Last Saturday night I threw my husband a killer 70th birthday party. Friends and family came from all over the country to celebrate this milestone event in his life. It was a time to honor all the relationships he built over the years and all the ways he encouraged and loved others. My wonderful kids helped put the event together as did some amazing friends. While my son in law was here helping with all the details and tasks, he got word that his beloved Grandma had passed away. Pain at the loss of this loved one bled into the joy and satisfaction of honoring another. Life is like that sometimes–a mixture of joy and sorrow, fulfillment and loss. The party was a huge success and highlighted the love and respect people have for my birthday boy. The loss of Grandma Vivian is deeply felt by all who loved her. Life and death intertwined creating the defining moments of our lives.
