Martin French’s beautiful and bold logo graced the walls of Western Seminary on Saturday as the Faith & Culture Writers Conference finally happened.  And it really was a happening. There were over 200 people in attendance with all the agents, editors, speakers, attendees, volunteers and various support persons. It was a wonderful day in every way. Even the weather managed to allow us a few moments out of doors without drowning. The keynote speakers, Paul Metzger and Gina Ochsner, brought powerful and challenging messages and although I wasn’t able to attend many of the twenty-one workshops the feedback on them has been terrific. Wilson and Dorcas Smith led some upbeat and heartfelt worship, the food was great, people had the chance to meet and network with other writers–those creative persons who understand one another best.

I was able to catch up with Kay Strom and her husband Dan Kline, and loved the fact that lots of my friends came to enjoy the day and they were encouraged. And why not be encouraged? Even if the market for Christian writing is changing, there’s always room for a fresh voice. Those who have important messages will always find a place to speak them. I was excited to see a variety of men and women, young and old coming together under the same umbrella of speaking out powerful words to impact the unique culture in which each of us lives.  And all of it to honor God.

All of the long weeks and months the Leadership Team worked were worth the time and energy as a truly great day came together. We were all exhausted in the best way—knowing we’d put together a really remarkable event.
