speak of his wonders*** OCW Summer Conference, here are some things I like about you:

***  I connect with other writers. We are an odd bunch, but in a good way.

***  When I leave the conference I’ve been inspired, challenged, and encouraged.

***  I get a bigger picture of the way God has given the gift of words.

Specifically:

Jim Rubart challenged us to be brave enough to flip.

Julie Hoy used her gorgeous voice to help us worship.

Tom Fuller and his team led heavenly worship and his devotionals helped us clarify the reason we offer our words.

Susan May Warren, the energizer bunny, filled my head with novel-writing techniques.

Sherri Langton’s quiet kindness, dedication and joy once again inspired me.

I had the best roommate in the world. Thanks, Louise.

Many people took the time to talk with me and encourage the gift in me. That feels so good, and I’m grateful to each one of them. Leslie Gould, thanks especially for your calm, encouraging words.

I had a great dinner with Mick Silva and Caleb Breakey. Speaking in confidence, these guys look too young to be as smart and accomplished as they are. Looks like there will be strong and effective leaders in the future of Christian writing.

One writer asked me to look at her blog and give her some input. Another asked me to brainstorm with her about a child and mom curriculum. Many shared their personal projects and the struggles in their lives. It seems acquaintances become friends in an instant at the OCW conference. Thanks Eva, Beth, Patty and many others.

There is some tough stuff at conferences. I saw one woman crying her eyes out while talking to someone at home. Her work had been rejected. Hang in there, little writer, you’ll have your day if you don’t quit.

And this may be the most fun of all. While doing an assignment for Susan’s class I met (created) Gertie and Edna. I think I might learn to enjoy those gals.

So thanks, OCW, for another great conference.
