IMG_5152 Here is my middle grandson, Jacob, enjoying a book. It does a grandmother’s heart good. I love to read and I love helping children learn to read. I spent over thirty years doing just that. Since I’ve turned to writing in my retirement years, I’ve had the time to publish articles designed to help parents during the pre-school and primary years . Parents want their children to succeed in school and to read well, they just don’t always know the best way to make that happen.

I published a series of reading articles in the magazine The Mother’s Heart published by Kym Wright. Now I’ve compiled those articles and a few more into a book entitled Homegrown Readers: Simple Ways to Help Your Child Learn to Read.

I’m so eager to have the book in my hand and be ready to share it with others. One of the most exciting components of the book is the Parent Discussion Group section at the back. Parents who really want to understand what it takes to have a home rich in literacy, want to understand reading readiness, and want to know how to best help their child if they struggle with reading skills, can read the book and then sit down with a group of like-minded parents to share and learn together.

Homegrown Readers is just a hop skip and a jump from being completed. I’m ready to take pre-orders for those interested. You can respond here or send an e-mail to janpierce@comcast.net and your name will go to the top of the list. Best guess for delivery is mid-March.

Thanks for your support,
Jan
