Our little writing group spent a very productive weekend at the beach and yes, we really did get some work done. But that’s not all we did. We began the weekend in pure-bliss sunshine having dinner at Rosanna’s in Oceanside. We had a table right smack by the window and enjoyed watching indestructable young boys swimming in that freezing water. Then we strolled down to the beach ourselves to soak in some rays before heading back to Cape Meares where we explored our digs for the weekend. It’s a beautiful home just a few blocks from the ocean and with all the comforts of home. Little work stations began to spring up all over the house and out on the deck.
The clear night brought out tons of stars and then Saturday arrived with the most beautiful sunshine imaginable. It was a day that had to inspire quirky little writer-types like us. We had some great discussions about our reasons for writing and our goals, ate lots of good food and in the evening listened to a teaching tape by Robin Jones Gunn–Writing from the Heart. Robin is funny, honest and inspiring. It was exactly the right balance between time alone and time together.
Sunday’s weather regressed to the rainy gray that we’ve become accustomed to this year, but it was still beautiful to be amongst the trees and the mist, hear the little stream below and find a few more hours to work on projects.
Now it’s back to real life with new enthusiasm for our writing.
