The more I write, the more I appreciate the writing community, especially the Christian one. I’m sure there are some exceptions, but in my experience these past four years I’ve never come across another writer who didn’t want to help me. My critique group cheers me on, Oregon Christian Writers does the same. We all celebrate one another’s victories and we commiserate with our struggles. I recently joined American Christian Fiction Writers as I’m working on my first full-length piece of fiction. There’s so much to learn and their website is absolutely filled with helpful information, courses, q and a and more. It’s a bit overwhelming, but I’ll be able to go back there over and over to find answers to my questions. Do I need to know what the inside of the capitol building in the state of Georgia looks like? Someone on the ACFW site will tell me. Do I need to find another way to express sadness or happiness besides my old cliches? I’ll get twenty answers within an hour. I love that.
Here’s my question of the day. What are your best resources on understanding point of view? How do you avoid the pitfalls of head hopping and other POV errors? It’s still a bit of a mystery to me. I’m working on it though. I’m open to your best advice.
And, here’s another ACFW goodie. I’m joining a writing challenge beginning October 1st. I’m aiming for 10,000 words in that month and I have to report daily on my progress. This is perfect for other-directed me who will always try to please the boss. I don’t do so well when I make myself the boss. We’ll see how it goes.
Waiting for your POV resources, writers.
